Bringing holiday cheer to low income residents for more than 20 years.

ASeason of Giving — Christmas Decatur works to ensure that Decatur children and seniors in need experience the joy of the holidays with gifts matched to their wishes through the volunteer spirit of neighbors helping neighbors.

Last year approximately 690 children received holiday gifts. The cost for each averaged $125, representing $86,000 in total community contributions made to those in need.

Help Out

Looking to help run our yearly effort? Here are ways to plug in:

  • In late September through mid-October, trained volunteers interview parents/guardians to compile a wish list specific to each child.
  • Volunteers assist in the office from late September through November. Volunteer duties include making copies; assigning wish lists to donors; maintaining records of wish list assignments; and calling previous donors.
  • Volunteers help in the distribution center in late November through mid-December. The distribution center responsibilities include checking in donated gifts; verifying that appropriate gifts have been donated for each person based on the wish list requests; and logging out gifts to parents/guardians and representatives of the organizations that provided wish lists for senior citizens.

Give to Those in Need

Prefer to shop? Gifts are due on the first Saturday in December. Here’s how you can help:

Request a wish list and buy gifts for a specific child or senior

Spend approximately $125-$150. You will receive a list of items with specific sizes and wishes. If a child needs a warm winter coat, please make that your first purchase. We also want every child to receive a book. If you purchase your book at Little Shop of Stories and mention why, the shop will donate 20 percent of your purchase to A Season of Giving/Christmas Decatur.

Make a financial donation

Donate any amount through our Give Now button and one of our volunteers will do the shopping.

Team up

Coordinate with your neighbors, co-workers, club, or other organization to purchase gifts together.
